The Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) has urged those who use and maintain forklifts to take action following the World Health Organisation's classification of diesel exhaust fumes as carcinogenic.
FLTA CEO David Ellison says: "With so much press coverage about the harmful effects of diesel fumes, some forklift users have expressed concerns about the safety of their forklift operations.
"Fumes are associated with a number of fuel types, which is why we have created a free and straightforward fact sheet on this subject."
He adds that those who use and maintain forklifts will need a sound risk assessment and practical solutions to deal with any fumes, which may contaminate their workplace.
Fact Sheet 22 - Fumes Associated with Fork Lift Truck Operations - is available in the advice section of the FLTA website

Separately, explosion-proof specialist Pyroban has launched a microsite to explain the dangers of using forklifts in Zone 2 hazardous areas, and to demonstrate how to protect workers and a facility from explosion risk.
The site,
