The Hutchison Ports-owned and operated Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST) has taken delivery of a 100% electric reachstacker as it continues to strive towards semi-automation and a reduced carbon footprint.
The RS Sany SRSC45E5 reachstacker has a lifting capacity of 45 T. and stacks up to five containers through its telescopic arm. The BEST terminal will use the reachstacker to handle containers in an area parallel to the railway terminal within the marine terminal.
The electric reachstacker is just the latest in a series of measures introduced at the port as part of its commitment to “an efficient and environmentally-sustainable terminal”.
Hutchison Ports BEST chief executive officer Guillermo Belcastro explains: “Society in general, and consumers in particular, are increasingly demanding the sustainable treatment of products from the point of production to their distribution, including the entire supply chain, and here BEST is already a differentiating factor”.
BEST has a Carbon Footprint Reduction Plan which aims to reduce emissions by 80% by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2040.
In August, BEST further automated its fleet with the delivery of 14 new automated cranes from Konecranes.
