Cascade Corporation celebrated its 60th anniversary in conjunction with its Annual Sales Meeting at the Resort at the Mountain, near Mt. Hood.
Robert Warren, Jr., CEO, concluded four days of product meetings by cutting the anniversary cake and speaking on how far the company has come since it began as a small machine shop with four employees in 1943.
That year, under Robert Warren, Sr. as General Manager, Cascade manufactured stainless steel valves, winches and pipe fittings. It wasn't until 1948 that the company manufactured its first hydraulic cylinder, and 1950 when it began making hydraulic attachments for a major lift truck manufacturer.
In 1954, Cascade began to manufacture and sell its own attachments. The company built a new facility in Portland, OR, which serves as the corporate headquarters today. After 15 years in business, sales had reached nearly $2.3 million.
Cascade continued to expand its operations in following years, with a manufacturing plant in Springfield, Ohio in 1959 and the acquisition of Louis Jonker Company in The Netherlands in 1960.
Cascade went public in 1965. In 1968, it formed a wholly-owned subsidiary operation in Japan. In 1974, the company acquired Diamond, N.V., a plant in Hoorn, The Netherlands, to help meet growing European product demands. Cascade completed construction of its European headquarters in Almere, The Netherlands in 1980, and added operations in China in 1986.
Cascade was first listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1996 (stock symbol CAE). The following year, Cascade expanded its product offering with the acquisition of Kenhar Corporation, the global leader in forks.
Today, with 1,400 employees and 26 facilities in 19 countries worldwide, Cascade is the world leader in material handling products for lift trucks.
