Cereals producer Kellogg's has struck a supply deal with BT Rolatruc to manage all its materials handling needs.
BT Rolatruc staff now manage all materials handling at Kellogg's operations in Trafford Park, Manchester, and Wrexham, North Wales. The value of the contract has not been released.
BT Rolatruc equipment is used throughout the production process. Nuts and raisins are handled by forklift and all packaging materials are palletised. Hand pallet trucks, powered pallet trucks and powered stackers are also used.
BT account manager Graham Wilkinson said the company took on the Kellogg's forklift maintenance program in 1999 as a cost-saving initiative, and later began a buy-back and rental arrangement to assume responsibility for downtime and performance.
"We then set about revising the fleet, replacing the oldest equipment, and cutting redundancy by introducing more reliable trucks. The fleet is now about 50 trucks, rather than 90," he said.
