Ballard marks 40 years
Vancouver, BC, Canada

Ballard Power Systems is celebrating its 40-year anniversary.
The company was founded in Vancouver in 1979 by Geoffrey Ballard, Keith Prater and Paul Howard to conduct research into and development of high-energy lithium batteries. Four years later, after a research breakthrough, proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells became a primary focus of the company's work, and Ballard has since established itself as a global leader in the PEM fuel cell industry. Ballard's IPO and listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange occurred in 1993 and the company was subsequently listed on the Nasdaq exchange in 1995.
According to Randy MacEwen, Ballard president and CEO, "At Ballard, our vision is simple and enduring - we deliver fuel cell power for a sustainable planet. What has changed today is the ability to point to numbers - actual technology and products operating in the field. The industry today is powering over 25,000 fuel cell forklifts, more than 12,000 fuel cell cars, and over 2,000 fuel cell buses and commercial trucks, all of which are operating in the field."

ICHCA calls for safety nominations
London, United Kingdom

ICHCA International, the global cargo handling NGO association, has launched the 3rd TT Club Innovation in Safety Award and has called for submissions from all involved in cargo handling and logistics who have shown a demonstrable improvement in operational safety.
The award will be presented at ICHCA's international conference in Malta this November and aims to highlight the importance of safety at a time of increased operational demands on cargo handling infrastructure and operations worldwide.
The award is open to individuals, teams or companies involved in cargo handling or logistics. Entrants are required to show that a product, idea, solution, process, scheme or other innovation has resulted in a demonstrable improvement to safety.

Readers of the Markt&Technik specialist publication have once again designated Philip Harting as Manager of the Year. This is the third time that the award has gone to the CEO of the Harting technology group.
This year, as in 2015, Philip Harting won in the category of Electromechanics. In 2017, he was chosen as Manager of the Year in the connection technology category.
"I am very pleased to have received this distinction again. It shows that we are on the right track with our mega-topics digitisation and Industry 4.0, as well as with our solutions and products," says Harting.
