In an interview with Rory Harvey-Kelly, General Manager of Baoli Material Handling Europe, Logistics Manager takes a look at the world of counterbalanced trucks.
  1. What are the factors driving developments in the market?
  2. What are some of the key developments?
  3. What are the key features that buyers look for when acquiring trucks?
The buyers of counterbalance trucks are different, because the conditions where the trucks will be used vary tremendously. Furthermore, operating hours may change as result of economic factors. Buyers look for forklifts appropriate for the specific environment.

The Baoli development team keeps in mind, that users need different forklifts for different requirements. Baoli offers diesel forklifts in two different versions: The latest D-series is available as "Standard" as well as the upgraded "Plus" version. Whilst the footprint, i.e. chassis, mast, counterweight and engine remain the same, the differentiation is in the layout. The standard version offers competitively priced forklifts for normal applications, the D-series "Plus" provides the solution for challenging and multi-shift operations. Operators of D-series "Plus" benefit from more comfort resulting in more efficiency and less fatigue.

An important factor driving developments is the total cost of ownership of the trucks. This means that buyers are also considering the cost of maintenance and service. Accessibility of the components becomes more and more important, because time is money. When developing Baoli forklifts, easy accessibility of components is a key factor. Baoli ensures that technicians do not waste customer's time and the money through inaccessibility of components.

Inefficiencies for technicians occur when a manufacturer develops similar trucks with different components. Therefore a key aspect for the Baoli development team is to offer different trucks, which are built on a joint platform. In this way the technicians easily understand to maintain and service the different versions, since the main aspects such as chassis, mast, engine, driver compartment and overhead guard are the same for both versions. Common spare parts are used by technicians ensuring maximum uptime.

These releases in Forkliftaction are a nice experience for SNDC... We got seven inquiries coming from Canada, USA, Mexico, Israel and Australia (five from retailers, two from machines manufacturers) and we are still in contact with them. I can state that's a success story!

I know I can count on them. They give valuable suggestions on the campaign planning, and to publish content is as easy as abc, as they take care of the material layout and check links. This is a great support.
