I have a Hyster 50 with 4 cyl Ford gas engine, solid front wheels and pnuematic rear, has a single forward/ reverse pedal that is hydraulic operation. Serial # D3D5591, there is a tag on the instrument panel that reads: Type G, 194A D. I think it was built around late 60s to early 70s. Can anyone help me with year model and any specs. I am trying to find parts to keep her running.

Those older machines are easy to rewire, we cut out the old harness and make up our own. Its just alittle tricky when setting up the neutral safety wiring.
Most people would point to the transmission as being the fault. For the most part forklift truck transmissions generally don't fail. The first thing that I would check is to make sure that the parking brake switch is working properly. If it is then the next thing to check is the switches in the for the monotrol pedal. If that is ok then I would check the valves and solenoids that shift the transmission into forward or reverse.
Thanks for the info. One more question if I may. Intermitently for no apparent reason she will not go forward or reverse. You can shut her down come back in a few minutes and she will run like normal. Also let me add that the wiring harness has been cut to pieces and there are dead end wires all over this machine. She has ran fairly well for the past four or five years and now out of the blue no forward or reverse (sometimes). Trouble shooting this is making me crazy...
The leak can be a good thing. It will either empty the bellhousing of oil allowing the engine to increase power output, or it will force you to leave it for the garbage man.
Let me take a wild guess, it has a leak. :-)
The H50H was a huge hyster failure, that Ford engine just never cut the mustard.
According to the serial number it was manufactured in Danville, Ky. Year designation 1976. Model designation is H50H, serial designation is D003D5591W. There may be some parts still around but a lot of them are going to be obsolete. The engine is 172 cu in, 68 horse power.
1978 At the very top of the plate is the model #, like H50H
I was able to locat one more letter at the end of the serial # D3D5591W. It was very light, almost worn off.
