Yale electric reach truck - "up" function works full speed only

2000 Yale 4K capacity NR series reach truck, all functions work with proper vari speed...mast down, reach, side shift and traction work great. But mast "up" is either off or full speed only...no in between. Presume it is not the joystick pot as "reach" and sideshift use the same pot and they work fine. Is problem likely on control board, stuck proportional valve, or ?

Having said all that, I just bought this thing and never owned a reach truck before. Is it possible full speed "up" is just the way they were back in 2000 ? That would seem very odd but I have a Big Joe walkie type lift that is that way also, and it was that way brand new. But it's "up" is slower and more manageable...plus it's a relatively simplistic affair...I can't imagine Yale cheaping out in that regard on this one.

Thomas- maybe someone set it there because they wanted to get rid of the truck- saying that it was uncontrollable at lift speed & would cost a fortune to fix.

Or maybe someone who had no clue on how adjust the settings was the "tech" in charge of servicing the unit

Unfortunately I've had the displeasure of dealing with both. :(

Ahhh
The mib settings...
I wasn't sure if this model had that or not
I have the manual for the AEN series but not the ADN
Glad you figured it out

The problem turned out to be that in the MIB (memory interface board) Function no. 2, which is minimum lift speed, was set at 22. Default is 18 but the range is 3 to 25. I took a guess and set mine at 7 and now it works great.

How and why it was set at 22 by previous owner or tech is quite the mystery as I can't imagine a senario where an operator would want the minimum lift speed to be pretty much as fast as full speed..... as it was quite difficult to control the positioning the way it was, plus jerky movement of the palletized goods when starting lift sequence via the joystick.

Having said that, it's also a mystery that Yale would even have settings that high in the first place. I mean, it could have been even worse...someone could have set it at 25 in theory. But in what universe would anyone *want* it set at 25 is beyond me.

could be a problem in the lift pot causing it to go full speed as was previously mentioned.
you should be able to access the service menu and monitor the lift function and see what reaction you are getting when moving the handle.

Model NR040ADNS24TE091

Serial B815N04445X

Aprox 1300 Truck hours, 700 lift hours. Seller had it pegged at 1999 year but Yale dealer I called before purchase said it is year 2000.

Since I posted here I confirmed it is supposed to be vari speed on the mast lift so there is something definitely wrong with it.

Thanks for any help !

Thomas, if it has a joy stick then it has a hoist control power unit it and therefore will be adjustable for speed and decent, I'm only familiar with the MR range of reach truck, if it has Zappy systems on this truck you will need a calibration tool to do the adjustments.
I'm sure someone on this site will have more information than I can supplie, as I am not familiar with the NR series.

Fact of the week
In 1923, French tennis player René Lacoste was promised a crocodile leather suitcase by his captain if he won his next match. He lost the match but won the nickname "the crocodile" which he had sown onto his tennis attire. Ten years later he launched the first polo shirt and Lacoste, the first brand to feature a logo on its clothing.
