Discussion:
Yale DC Reach truck handbrake not releasing

Hi there Can anyone shed some light on an issue I am having on a Yale MR16 reach truck DC controller with a Zapi SEM controller and Zapi Pump unit.

When we turn the key on it energises ok, when we turn the hadnbrake switch off the light goes off the dash but the brake itself does not release and then comes up 'pressure not ok' error.

The way we can get the handbrake to release is by using the hydraulics, once we activate the hydraulics it releases the handbrake?

Tried changing the pressure switch but made no difference. Checked the solenoid valves resistance seem ok.

Went into the pump controller with a zapi handset and found that the handbrake switch was not activating on or off when we turned the handbrake switch, however the connections into the controller for handbrake input etc all seem ok. My initial thought was that it could be a controller fault, however have been told by a Yale engineer that this was a known problem on these Yales and it is not related to the controller. Can anyone please shed some light on this issue if you have come across this before.

Regards

On the Bt's i have worked on the diodes are in the loom just back from the switch. The diodes fracture causing the same symptoms you have. What is the serial number of the Yale?

Hi Andy

Seems to be a hydraulic handbrake operated through somekind of electrical system. From what i understand the release of the handbrake switch is meant to operate the hydraulic controller for a split second in order to disengage the hydraulic brake. Any ideas if this has the same diode system and where to look?

Is this an electric/hydraulic handbrake? I have had similar problems with BT machines fitted with electric hydraulic handbrakes and it is usually a diode in the wiring loom broken.

Hi everyone

I checked the battery but that seems ok holding steady under load. Not sure what else to check as the controller was tested on another truck also ok. The handbrake inputs are all correct.

Once issue i could do with clarification is if the handbrake switch should be positive when turning handbrake off it should go 0v or if it should be 0v and when turning handbrake off it should go 48v positive?

Running out of checks to do, I heard someone mention that this is a common fault on these Yale reach trucks?

Hi elektrodrive
I had same problem with a MR16 mine turned out to be the battery, found this out after replacing a faulty cell, the fault disappeared.
Not sure if you have the same problem but it's worth a look
