Clark C500 SERIES:
won't start

I have a Clark C500 that won't start. If I turn the propane tank on you can hear and smell propane but never seems to stop. I think it's flooding because if I shut the tank off and let it sit a couple of minutes it will sometimes start and run for 5-10 sec. Is it the regulator that prevents propane for entering the carb or the diaphragm on the carb. The carb is a J&S model 55 and I'm assuming the regulator is also a J&S but has no #'s. Are there rebuild kits for these or do you have to buy the whole regulator or carb? I know the solenoid is good before the regulator because I hear it click on and off with the ignition. I also noticed if I leave the tank on it will freeze up the carb. Any suggestions? Thanks

It uses an electric solenoid, no vacuum. Are the j&s model 55 mixers rebuildable ?

there are two things to look at
first is the fuel lock solenoid, that opens flow from the tank into the filter and/or evaporator(converter).
Now some LP systems have a vacuum hose running to a filter assy that is hooked inline with the converter, in this case there is probably no lock-off solenoid because the filter is actually the fuel lock valve and opens when the engine pulls a vacuum on it.

secondly there is a diaphragm in the mixer (carb) that also has a shut off (bullet valve) on it.

If you hear it rushing into the mixer (carb) then the mixer diaphragm is probably bad and should be replaced.
