Kalmar DCE60-90:
wont start without ether, then runs

have a DCE 75 with a starting issue, will crank for days but wont really start without a spray of ether, but then its fine and runs for a few hours until in conks out, but another spray of ether and its good for another couple hours

primer pump on water separator seems good, lift pump on back of injection pump seems good, swapped the speed sensor on the fuel pump with known good machine, neither machine changed

engine is a perkins 1106d-e66ta
injection pump is a cat 317-8021

looking for any advice or direction please

we have mostly Hyster-Yale equip and not much knowledge of these Kalmar
