Discussion:
Who's the Strongest UK non Manufacturer nowadays?

Just a thought - who really is doing the most profitable, quality business, growing their business base commercially not just market share wise in the 'non manufacturer' category, lets debate Nationwide and regional, up North, East, West and in the South?.. or is it all about the manufacturers nowadays? Have the independents had more recent success? Like I said just a thought.........

Briggs is owned by Sammons who are immensly wealthy. I think it is important to make the distinction between the 'strongest' and the 'most successful' - there is a big difference and therefore totally different answers to each

I don't know the figures but Barloworld is a genuine global business and must be bigger than Briggs, both in the UK and world markets.

Barlow and Briggs are non-manufacturer. Briggs are probably the strongest financially given their ownership strength.

yer but that's the fun all companies are doing well i remember a company called color roll we were told buy these shares they are going great luckily we din't two day's later they went bust. No company is going to say on here or any ware else i'm in trouble and in three weeks if things don't change we will go bust they will all say how well we are doing and will even show some good deals. I had a friend in this business who wasn't told me way back in 1989 it is very easy to sell forklifts with fivers tied to the mast this is still the case now but there are more than fivers tied to the mast

I don't think this question can be answered. Companies will claim to be doing great business but in the LTR world, the last couple of years of the contract are the ones when you can take the pain. There will be a lot more consolidation in the next couple of years and I would guess that we will end up with some very profitable and strong businesses.
