Looking for info regarding the compatibility of transmission fluids.
Toyota is saying that AFD-M must be used ( triple the cost/ I am looking for product data sheet on the AFD-M ) but I have been told that Dexron/ Mercon CD 71 is equal to that with the following specs
(Performance Requirements:
♦ All North American cars and trucks that specify General Motors Dexron IIIH, Dexron III, Dexron
IIE, Dexron II, Type A Suffix A, and Ford Mercon, CJ and H Automac Transmission Fluid.
♦ Recommended for power shi' transmissions specifying Allison C-3/C-4 or CAT TO-2 Fluids ♦ Mobil equipment hydraulics
Showing items 1 - 6 of 6 results.
We have always used the Dexron II and never had any issues. My customer had e-mailed me with these concerns regarding a conversation between him and the OE on transmission services and top ups.
Thanks for the all the info and will put it to good use
Doubled posted. Deleted one.
I checked the 8F Toyota manual today and it is also calling out for Dexron II.
Dexron III was introduced in about 1993, and is backward compatible with Dexron II.
I can't answer how come Toyota still calls out for Dexron II in the 8F book.
It's Dexron III now.
The manual I have is the original 7F manual from back around 2000.
I'll check our 8F manual today to see if it shows differently.
i'm pretty sure dextron II has been replaced by dextron III now
unless the truck specifically specifies a mercon fluid which is rare in forklifts
the only fluids i know of that are used are the tractor fluid which cannot be confused with dextron and is generally clear in color, or dextron III.
Do they even make dex II anymore?
From the Toyota 7FGCU20 thru 7FGCU32 shop manual.
GM Dexron II.
I don't know who at Toyota told you what you stated.
All we have ever run in our fleet of Toyotas is Dexron II.
