Just picked up a 421 Towmotor. It's a runner, got home and took the front wheels off, finding it definitely needs brakes like the seller said. I'm looking for a good venue to buy brakes parts, if anyone can direct me please. Thanks in advance!

I had a hard time finding shoes for a old 462 I just redid- it had the 11" brakes instead of the 8 3/4 typical for most models...anyways, the bonded 11" shoes appear to be unavailable, even the 8 3/4" were going for 100.00 a shoe or more... found a NOS set of Ford F100 rivet on linings on ebay for 50 bucks. the original bonded shoe had all delaminated- one lining had come off jamming the wheel, the other three peeled off with no effort- thankful as they are certainly organic(asbestos) and you wouldnt want to grind on that... had to cut about a inch off each Ford shoe, transfter/drill/counterbore(heavy cast shoes arent made for rivets, had to drill backsides leaving only about 3/32 thickness for the old rivets... the shoes were made to be riveted on dry, but to make easier, I superglued and wrapped tape to hold tight against shoes before riveting- probbly unnecessary, but didnt want to break anything from the lining bouncing around till the first few rivets were in- if doing similar, just be sure no gaps exist between shoe/lining, I wrapped stretched electrical tape around the length from center out to hold tight together till glue dried... anyways for 50 bucks, got brakes again. mine had huge 1.5" wagner-lockheed wheel cylinders, thankfully the bores were in great shape- just honed out, luckily NOS cups and boots are plentiful still-think it was like 10 bucks for (7) spare cups. coming years these old parts are going to get ever rarer- good luck :)
