Discussion:
Diesel V Electric forklifts

A lot of people are now saying that a electric forklift is just as good as a diesel, I thought i would have a look so i have looked at the spec sheets of two manufacture both manufacturing Diesel and Electric forklifts.

I looked at a 7 ton fork lift both had the same load centres , The electric was always over one ton heavier than the diesel , On size the electric was always slightly smaller now here is what i found very interesting on truck performance travel speed lift speed and lowering speed the diesel was around 20 percent faster on travel and between ten and fifteenth percent faster on lowering and lifting.

Now when you add the cost of the machine electric is around 10 - fifteen percent higher and even more if they are working more than on shift because of extra batteries than the diesel. the diesel works out much better in my opinion because it offers better value for money and better productivity

A lot depends on where you are at. Cost of fuel and cost of electricity vary from place to place. The total number of moving parts on the diesel is much higher than the number on the electric truck. periodic maintenance costs are much higher on the diesel truck. The electric truck runs much cooler and quieter, These factors also need to be addressed.

What about if you look at it over 5 years. 2000 hours per annum. What would be the most cost effective. Maintenance on a diesel would be much more due to emissions regs etc. DPF's, EGR's.
