Crown WAV50-84:
troubleshooting without support

Hello forum, I should explain that I work for a automotive machine shop that deals In high volume of engines, but the boss does not spend a lot of money on equipment repair. So I am trying to fix our wave work assist vehicle with a shoestring budget. I have electrical troubleshooting skills, and basic equipment such as Fluke millimeter etc. But I do not have the pf11776 service manual, or a handheld control unit (Curtis) or access123. The unit came to me (its the shops lift but not my department) immobile. I charged the batteries up, but when I try to power on the unit I get a constant beeping and lights 1 4 &5 counting from right to left. No movement of any sort. I think that is a code 25 (1,8, &16) but alas I have no idea what a code 25 is. any insight would really help. Thank you -michael

Hello,

What is the trick to manually raise the lift to gain access to the motors?

Ive seen this fault so many time on waves dean is correct new brushes can help but most times a new drive motor will be needed these motors really are a pain. The best way to maintain them is to strip and clean them every service being a sealed motor they really do suffer with carbon build up. Good look

You are quite correct, fault code 25.
Right motor open, usually brush problem, upon start up the brush contact through commutator is bad, they get really dirty inside, you can strip down motor, clean
Comm, and blow out, but it will happen again, and steer funny in that direction.
If you push the drive button to push, and physically move truck so brushes are on a different part of the comm, it may start up.
New brushes can help, but have found that harder compound brushes specifically made to order, and bedded in properly, will give best results.
Good luck
