Linde (& Baker) FOER 5.2/1.1:
Main contactor does not pull in, wiring diagram needed

Hi All,
I hope someone can help me...
Truck details FOER 5.2s/1.5 PFL serial No. 80058056.
It's a 48V machine.
This belongs to a carpenter in a neighbouring unit. He helps me out and I'm trying to return the favour.
In the cold weather it runs ok but when it gets warm the main contactor (right hand side under the batteries) refuses to pull in. I've done a few basic checks and when the fault is present there is no ground on the contactor, the 48V feed is there. He called in a forktruck engineer who was reluctant to do much to it due to its age. All he suggested was to hit the side with a lump hammer! which sometimes does make it start. When it is going in hot weather my friend leaves it switched on until he's finished with it just in case it won't restart.
A wiring diagram will be a huge help as otherwise the only way forward for me is to open the loom up and follow the wire!
I'm an autoelectrician so I'm sure I can make this old girl go with some diagrams to work from.

I have a wiring diagram for this truck, but I think the problem is mechanical. The contactor you talk of is a line contactor and has a plunger pulled in by a coil, these plungers can get crappy under the battery and can act ''slow'', hence the hammer cure will jump them into action. Pain in **** job as you need to remove the battery and remove coil assemble. then take out the coil assemble. 2 wires and 2 cables. you will see two 2ba bolts on the coil ''H'' frame remove these and clean up the plunger and wipe out the coil tube check that the stop on the ''H'' frame is not worn back by the plunger. This will also cause the same problem. contact me if you require further help

there should be no "frame grounds" on an electric forklift. there should be a wire that is 'return to battery neg'.
