Hyster S30C (Spacesaver)

Serial no C2A6052X
this may sound a strange question but! anyone know how to remove wheels??
truck has press on band tyres, wheel has a ring of 10 studs which I have undone and expected wheel to come off. didn't move!!
put nuts back on (slack) and ran truck round (usually works) but wheel still wont move.
never even seen one of these before so I don't want to get rough yet and use long bar!
with this being old truck I am thinking wheels are just seized on to hub??
any help appreciated.

I think the first ones of those I did, after about a hour, I took a break, sat down, and started to cry for a bit before getting back at it.

I done my apprentiship on these. The sledge hammer remedy is the go. The tapers will have a split in them. Usually once they loosen with the hammering, you have to put a screw driver in the slot and wind them off. I had a pair of slip jaw pliers in my tool box that I ground one of the jaws to a tapered point. If you use the tapered point in the slot, it opens them up and with the other jaw opposite it, they come off really easy.

Done far too many of these to ignore a comment this post.
Yep, agree fully with the above. Minimum 14 Lb sledge hammer and swing to your hearts content on the outer rim. Keep turning the wheel and hitting opposite sides and eventually the tapered collets will loosen and the wheel will start to move. You'll have to remove all the collets before the wheel will come off.
Can't beat a good upper body work out.

Service life of a forklift is proportional to how well it is maintained.
Amen BB and you can sometimes lose you religion trying to get them off. Had good luck before with backing off road nuts and applying penetrating oil and snugging the nuts just a little then driving over a rough surface loaded. Being it is an ancient machine i can assure you those things will be rusted on. Good luck!

Each stud would have a taper lock.

thanks for reply, didn't see anything under nuts and washers.
going back to site later in week, I will remove nuts again and try that.
would you know if they have full set of tapers or just a couple same as Toyota half shafts?

These older trucks usually have tapered locks on the studs- were they removed as well as the nuts? I would agree that the wheels could be rusted to the hub- I usually hit the circumference of the wheel with a hefty sledgehammer to break them free.
