Service customer with issues with a JLG 2630ES S/N 020315485A

One of our customers brought in a JLG 2630es saying the onboard charger was not working. I checked the charger and it has both good voltage and current out and the batteries on the 24v system were at 28 volts static and 26 volts under load. The platform control shows that the batteries are dead and the truck will barely make creep speed. The hydraulic system is working fine, lift speed is well within spec. but it was stopping the deck well below the max spec. but that proved out to be a problem with the rotary angle sensor, once it was replaced the unit now lifts to full height. All of the connections between the chassis and the platform have been checked and cleaned. If anyone can offer any advice, Thanks in advance.

after reviewing the service manual if there is any problem with the unit at all it will display a DTC code on the Multifunctional Digital Indicator (MDI). Or look on the controller and see if it is flashing any codes.
If the battery charger is giving any problems it has it's own LED's and will flash codes indicating what problems it might be having.
The charger is integrated into the control system so there are no jumper wires to mess with on this model, it is not like the older units.

He needs to see what the code(s) are and come back and let us know.

meliftman i was talking about programming the charger and not the controller. i will see if i can dig up some old info on this and somewhat explain it as explaining it will be just about a pain in the %^$ as actually doing it.

A handset will allow you to see if the machine is set for flooded batteries or gel batteries. This setting will affect charger operation.

Best i can remember there was a programming on certain models that involved hooking the battery up and using a momentary switch and counting led blinks. This told the charger if you were using lead acid or gel cells and charge voltage. They called it setting the logarithm. This may have some bearing on the BDI and such. Also check the pothole switches. Just a thought. BTW setting the correct logarithm is a pain in the.......well you know.

like jeremy said check the sensor on the sissor assy and make sure it is registering when the platform is lowered.
Also it would help if you had a JLG handset to connect to it, that would help diagnose it quite easier.
Couple things come to mind about the battery indicator, there is a sensor wire on the charger... make sure it is connected and no open circuits in it. One other thing would be if the reset range on the BDI is off, that might keep it in cutout mode limiting the unit's movement speed. Raising the reset level so that it will reset at a lower voltage might make the BDI reset.
Like i said, having the handset would make things a heck of alot easier ;o)

good luck

Have you checked the proximity sensor? It lets the lift know that the platform is in the lowered position, it is a magnetic switch usually near the rotary sensor, if it is not seeing the platform lowered the speed will be limited.
