Kalmar gec 160-6 ignition timing setting

Hello, this machine has a 7.4 l gm engine the ignition timing is now set at 12 deg b.t.d.c but sounds sluggish when throttle is snaped, if i advance timing eng seems to run better so what is right setting. Also anybody have manual for this machine. Regards Fran
