anyone have a manual for this old diesel, need to know how to time the injector pump to the engine.....the Fuel filter isn't very old,the truck starts and runs but it drops down to and idle at times and has no throttle response, shop says its the injector pump......I don't work on a lot of diesels so am taking their word for it,getting a quote and see if the customer is going to have the pump changed out or not, just want to be prepared in case they do.

Always pressurize fuel tank and blow fuel away from the tank. Keeps you from reintroducing possible blockage back into the tank:).

Got it sorted out and running better yesterday, took the fuel lines off and blew them all out with air, removed the small shut off valve at the tank and blew that out,did find some crud and debris at that.....installed a new fuel filter even tho the one on it only had 30 hours on it.....ran good afterwards and haven't heard back from the customer....YET

Hello,
Remove the 2 banjo bolts on top of the fuel filter, in the one that comes from the fuel tank there's a very small filter screwed inside. Remove and clean the hose.
Kind regards

I am not familiar with this particular truck nor engine but i would check for a final chance filter located in the injector pump. It is usually found beneath the fuel inlet on the injector pump. Just a thought.

From what you have described I would check for a fuel blockage very often fuel starvation will cause the engine to drop to tick over revs and won't rev up, check stack tube from fuel tank for blockage,
Check any banjo bolt connections debri can collect at these points, if your truck has a hand primer pump situated over the fuel filter and the revs fall to tick over speed observe if the primer button has pull down this is a good sign of a blockage. I always think its worth checking for a blockage before moving onto the injector pump.
