Does anyone know where these machines are made? Are they Sumitomo built units? I am trying to do compare several brands, but there are so
many options on the Fortis it is like picking Lottery numbers.

My family owns and operates a Yale dealer in N.Y.C. and we see just about anything that goes on in the forklift world. We have been a Yale dealer for 15yr's (before that we were a tcm dealer for 15yr's) And so far this has been there best product in along time. We really having had any major problems. No tranny trouble at all , no mast trouble or axle problems. This is really a good truck.
The Yale & Hyster truck are the same truck just different paint and labels. We havn't had many problems with them. We have gone threw some mini levers and fwd & rvs levers. Those two items were fixed as of last year. They went threw a few vendor changes to correct these problems.
As for the G.M. head issue - G.M. motors don't hold up once you hook an attachment to it. We have always had an overheating problem. Thats why we don't sell many of them. Right know im having a big problem with the cam shafts and the valve seats on the head. They did fix that problem though. When you do get a new head there are better seats in them. I've done 8 so far and im on my 9th one.
they are built using D F T.demand flow (something). they only built what is ordered.every truck is built to what the dealer wants. yes eu options are a lot different ie ,, most eu trucks are pneumatic/pnuematic shaped solids tyred trucks. its a sad day that they are choosing to end production in bonnie scotland
They are the same trucks, even if marketing choose to not offer some options in EU. Until the end of 2008 the 2-3t pneumatic trucks were all made in Craigavon and shipped to North America. Some of the Berea built cushion tire trucks are sent to EU. (NACCO announced that the 2-3t pheumatics for the US market will now be built in Berea to make room in Craigavon for product that was produced at the Irvine facility they are shutting down)
The Sumitomo-Yale ICE trucks are completely different.
Fortis is built in US (Berea, KY) and UK (Craigavon, NI) each for its market. They are not the same. US Fortis trucks have many more options than their UK cousins.
You guys do know, that there is a 12,000 hour warranty on MLM's?
No?
Sorry poor wording Ice station, Nearly 20 years between two dealerships one Yale one Hyster, now with Nissan dealer.
Parker co-developed the lever with another company, Hyster stuck with the other company. Parker did a better job with the details.

If you are already disassembling the levers to try and clean/lubricate them, you might try leaving one or two of the lever mounting screws just snug so that any distortion of the housing doesn't distort the lever base. (Doesn't always work but worth a try)

bigGlittlestar - which facility did you work at? I was in Portland from 02-06. ISZ
Worked for Hyster and Yale for many years the mini lever system is a horrible design. I am no longer with them so this 5 year warranty could be the fix. Because those other little pieces of crap were expensive and the factory would not pay a warranty unless the field mod was tried first.
It says hyd interlock and the levers then wont work if u work each lever back and fore it will clear the hyd interlock word and u know which lever is faulty there is a modification out were u drill a hole in the lever so u can lubricate it but there not worth fixing just replace it they have a 5 year warranty on the levers but the problem is fixed on the newer levers now i hope
They say hyd interlock return lever to center. You can break them oopen and move the pick up back to center.I have done many and never had a problem.
What kind of problems are you seeing with the minilevers? Are they breaking or throwing codes?
Your right the mini levers on the fortens trucks is a complete disaster they have sorted the problem out now u get a 5 year warranty on the levers now personally i would go for the optional mechanical hydraulic levers which u can get all the fortens range trucks in uk has mazda engines for the lpg quite a good engine and vortex and yanmar for the deisel engines
As matter of interest chuck if the driver damages the rear lead light units it damages the wireing loom behind it and can damage the vsm
I have 28 fortis units at a costomer with carton clamps and the GM 2.4. I have replaced many head assy. on these units due to the valves inbedding in the head. I have also replaced many of the E-Hydro mini levers seems Hyster finally got the levers right, after hundreds of moduals at $700+, and I am now waiting to get a test head from Hyster and GM. I aslo see alot of engine lights for glitch codes.
I know they are same but have had a few complaints at a customer my self not on hyster fortis but yale veracitor. They have both, Yales are newest with less than 1000 hrs.
Look like twins to me.Go figure
VERACITOR-FORTIS Cushion tire trucks...they come down the same line at Berea KY --the paint color is the only difference--engine options are the same
so there is a option? just doesnt come with the GM engine? I service a huge company who has over 50 plants with Hysters, I was told yesterday that they have been told to stop buying Hysters because of fortis issues, I really want to hear the details, but as a contractor I may never get that info. ill pass it on if true.
.
Less options= less things to break, I'd buy a bare bones model.
On Yale Veracitor / Hyster Fortis go with the mazda 2.2l engine.
Thanks for the help......
Ps... etharp, thanks for the tip, I am slowly being
pulled into the 20th century.. May
even get to the same century with
the rest of you one day.
Hyster Fortis and Yale Veracitor trucks are built in the NMHG factory in Berea, KY, USA.
