Discussion:
crown RR3000

Working on an older crown w/ a steering issue. The truck has an orbitrol w/ a chain attached. It that turns a drive shaft, that turns gears to the drive train. At times the orbitol is difficult to turn as if it loses hydraulic pressure in part. Steer motor is good. Orbitrol has a slight leak, didn't check pump pressure. Anyone know if these trucks have any inherant issues w/ pumps or orbitrols, (change both)? Drive train seems to be ok.

Yes I will do that. For now I replaced the pump and orbitrol and that illiminated the issue. Thank you LTRM

I have had a few of these, they get like a stiff spot in them while steering while driving slow or stopped. Replacing the steer orbital is what I have done in the past. Double check the drive support bearing if you watch the gear box while driving or stopping with the brake watch real close for any movement in the drive gear box. There is a support bearing that fails

That orbital is a torque generator, it transfers you're hand movements into enough hydraulic torque to drive down the long shaft to the universal to the gearbox, replacement is usually the only option, if you try to open it up and reseal it, don't get it wrong because it may just drive ,spinning the handle.
