The following definitions are taken from the ITSDF, B56.1-2005 publication, SAFETY STANDARD FOR LOW LIFT AND HIGH LIFT TRUCKS, Part IV, Glossary of Commonly Used Words and Phrases. (pages 49 - 56)

"truck, powered industrial: a mobile power propelled truck
used to carry, push, pull, lift, stack, or tier material." (page 54)

"truck, forklift: a self-loading truck, equipped with load
carriage and forks for transporting and tiering loads." (page 51)

"truck, counterbalanced: a truck equipped with load-engaging
means wherein all the load during normal transporting is external to the polygon formed by the wheel contacts." (page 51)

You can download a free copy of this and other INDUSTRIAL TRUCK STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION consensus standards. Google: ITSDF.ORG.

Fact of the week
Foundling hatches are safe, anonymous drop-off points for unwanted infants, allowing parents in crisis a way to surrender a baby safely without fear of punishment, ensuring the child is rescued and cared for. The concept started in the 12th century, was abandoned in the late 19th century, then reintroduced in 1952. It has since been adopted in many countries.
