Discussion:
Error Code E-31

Hi there, I have an error code on my Nissan forklift that says "E-31" when I turn the key on. The forklift has troubles staying started when I first turn it on in the morning. I've replaced all the plugs, filters etc, it still wont keep running unless I press the pedal for 30 seconds so it warms up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dan.

This forum has been incredible correcting this problem. I have the same code issue E31. I do not have access to a service manual. Would anyone be willing to share the procedure to teach the ECM the accel pedal and throttle actuator it would be greatly appreciated please and thank you

Hey fellas, I had the same headaches trying to troubleshoot a E- 31 fault code, I went through the dealers breakdown sheets. For my issue the problem was found at the blue covered relay box. At the dealer I used to work we also replace those boxes. I cleaned out the connections in the back of the relay box, turned unit on and acceleration came back. Good luck guys.

Hi Guys, in relation to error code E31 for Nissan P1D1 series machines.
We have a real troublesome machine on our fleet. E31 code. New wiring harness, new ECM, new accel pot, used but good throttle body. Cleared VCM alarm history, cleared ECM history through 'self diag clr'. Fault still persists. Attempted the throttle dance several times with no real result. Any advise would be really welcome at this stage? Has anyone converted this model back to impco & distributor system - may save a lot of expense?????

Dan;
E24 is telling you that the vehicle's accelerator sensor signal circuit has a problem.
E25 O2 sensor circuit has a problem,
To best define the issue or issues remove the cup holder from the dash untape the OBD II blue plug install a OBD II handset that you can pickup at any good auto parts store. You should receive the P code which will help in the solution to problem. To clear codes with a good accelerator pedal sensor, key switch ON, accelerator released, wait 3 sec., depress accel pedal fully and then release. Repeat this four more times within 5 sec. Fullu depress accel for 7 sec and then release, count off 10 sec the dash icon will start blinking fault codes. Fully depress accel pedal and hold for 10 sec. ERROR CODES ERASED !

Thank you for all of your responses! I used brake clean and cleaned the connectors and now it runs GREAT! However, when I finished I started getting E-24 now as well! What does that error code mean? Also, when I am done, how do I clear these error codes from my machine?

Edit: E-24, not E-25, sorry.

lets do it
WMC1;
The few times I've seen this issue have been wiring related. Your last message is leading you in the most likely of causes. In addition to frayed or broken wires to the 6 pin throttle motor, also look at the ground connection under the left side step plate cover for possible connection problems. If you would like to have the bench test procedures for the throttle motor/sensor circuits we may be able to help you further. Do you have a clean fuel filter in the throttle body and has the accelerator pedal and throttle actuator been taught to the ECM.

E-31 is a fault in the electronic throttle control system circuit (ETC). I would look at things like the ETC fuse, ETC relay and all wireing fromt he eCM to the throttle chamber. Also look closely at the throttle chamber electrical connector. Sometimes the pins in the connector can lose tension and cause poor connections. If all of that is good, look at the throttle motor/chamber itself.
