drive potentiometer replacement

I have a replacement potentiometer with the correct part number. The problem is that the original pot. has the solder connections on the side and are numbered (1,2,3). The replacement connections are on the back and marked CW,CCW,S. Anybody know the correct way to connect this. Can not find info..

Attach one lead of your meter to the #2 post and one lead first to the #1 and then the #3. If the resistance ratchets up or down while turning the pot then #2 should be your wiper connection. You can then do the same thing with your new pot and I believe the S connection will be your wiper connection. Note which direction the resistance goes while turning both pots and solder accordingly.
