Discussion:
Hyster forklift no brakes

have a Hyster older forklift, guessing a d50 series that has no brakes, finally removed wheels, its duel and brake drum, next the axle hub but stumped how to get to the brake wheel cylinder, removed the 7 nuts and wedge washers bit the plate is solid and does not budge.

picture is in my avatar, any ideas or help both ow to remove the cylinder and actually identifying machine would be appreciated

after cleaning and wire brushing plate the pads the brake shoes sit against are worn thro, this supports the shoes when you put the clips on, with shoes angled went to work grinding and setting a piece of 3/16 flatbar in place a couple hours welding fixed it up, tomorrow will put the shoes back together, emregency brake levers and cable may even get the drum on tomorrow

right side apart, backing plate was not rusted however heavy rust scale everywhere, cylinder was toast, brake line rusted off at the nut and suprised to see the emergency brake cable in the drum, obviously the emergency brake is both sides, all parts cleaned and painted

wating on a brake cable, its not right length and like the left side had to machine the end to fit, once it arrives start assembly

this has been quite the job, after removing the cone washers, fabricating the backing plate, found a brake cable from Hyster, had to machine the sheath end at the drum to fit the plate and all is good, assembled the left side.

now the rigth side, turns out there is a park brake on this side, it was cut flush with the backing plate, again everything rusted solid, this side the plate is badly deformed due to something getting between the plate and the machine frame.

have to figure a new cable thats a bit shorter first clean everything and straighten the backing plate

all fun

finally got the plate off, pressed onto the axle, had to cut brake line though it was rusted badly, the backing plate required fabricating half rotted away, brake cable needs replacing but salvaged the brake cylinder

once cable arrives time to put it back together.

for interest the park brake is only on the one wheel left side
