engine problem please help

Forklift would not stay running struggled to start would misfire then would backfire and die.
i worked my way through plugs and as soon as i popped off cylinder 2 sparkplug wire it calmed down and idled. so i replaced the plug and still does the same. wire checks out and i cleaned the contact points in the distributor cap. still no luck any ideas?

good deal man
i don't know how many times i've ran across that on these cat trucks.
i finally got to the point when i found misfiring happening the cap was the first place i looked and 99% of the time there were cracks there causing it.
just doing a simple tune up of new cap, rotor, plugs usually fixes it and if need be new wires too if the old ones are cracked or the boots are damaged.
Glad i could help out
Have a great day and be safe :)

go back to the distributor cap and look real close inside it and look at the points from the electrodes to the center tap and check for any cracks. Use a bright light and even get a magnifying glass so you can get a good look. If there are any they will show up either by being able to see them or you can see the carbon trails the arcing leaves behind. The spark will follow these cracks towards the center pole or even across other adjacent cylinders if the cracks connect to them.
Because you disconnected the #2 plug and the problem calmed down tells me you are having a cross fire issue causing that cylinder to fire out of time.
At least that's what it sounds like to me.
