I don't know about any legal issues as to employment as we are leaving the employment of one to go to another, and even though I don't like the idea either, I wouldn't want to pay someone for unproductive time to take a physical to be employed by another company. That being said, I think we should be paid because we did not seek out the employment but through no fault of our own, we will be switching employers. Will we get paid? Anybodies guess. But I do have a thought. Better left unsaid, to many eyes and ears.

Forklifts, it is my bet it actually has some legal or insurance reasoning, something like it needs to be a "_pre_" employment drug screen. if they were paying you, you would then already be in their employment.
And of course BW is "that cheap", since they won't be having any future profits from you, and will now have to clean up all the dirt they thought they had swept under the rug and expose it to the light of day ("a new broom sweeps clean").
My bet is these days (especially with the deal closing postponed) the BW [soon to be former BW] management is spending a good deal of their time finding things that they thought they had 'gotten away from' that have to be fixed or adjusted before the keys to the doors of the palace can be handed over, and that there is no place to hide those problems anymore.
forklifts--thats some classy management there! WOW! I would tell them, "Yea, I can do it on my own time if you go with me!!!
let me get this straight barlo is selling out to briggs and lift 1 but we were just told that we had to complete the drug test for employement with the new company on our own time. is barlo that cheap. they are selling out and it is us techs that are still working to help the company squeeze every last penny before they leave. what if every tech just "called in sick" the last week. i bet their billing would go down then. maybe it would just be cheaper to pay an hour for a drug test.
Barlows have some great people work there but are in the shadow of the bad ones. If the face fits you will do well.
Lift1 is keeping some marketing people for now..a Big Mistake!
Have already considered the issue and contacted someone who knows more than I. Nothing I have printed here is confidential nor false. Thanks for the warning, but I believe it is a non-issue.
Michael I dont know if your a tech for Barloworld or not but be careful on here. The techs in Florida were threatened with their jobs for participiting in conversations on here about a year ago.
I heard of some other shuffling similar to this. Not much anyone can do right now but I am sure the new owners know who was where, when and how. Management is always in the hot seat during a buyout and uncertainty breeds many bad things. I hope the benefit package is somewhat better than the Barloworld package which has gone down hill from the original package we had when I first went to work here. The things we have been given to read answering questions about it, the overall package is better, years of service are supposed to count, and sick time around here went south with the economy, family illnesses, and personal needs. I was glad it was there but it isn't now.
sounds like some underhanded shuffling going on
and may be for nothing
of course all this is basically conjecture based on what "you think" is going on.
But....... they can shuffle around people all they want, that will not guarantee thier position in the company, especailly if they are found out to be doing underhanded stuff.
I heard today from a BW employee that the Orlando branch manager was demoted to service manager and the former division manager was made the new branch manager??? Doesnt sound like Briggs is in on these moves. Sounds more of what BigGlittlestar is talking about.
New owners didnt make the cuts, the old BW hacks wanted to secure their spots by getting rid of the people that are threats and that actually should be replacing them.
Thanks for the info. I guess I am just frustrated with the lack of information on benefits from LiftOne. I am not in the least worried about my job performance, but I am worried about my quality of life declining if the benefit package doesn't add up to Barloworld's. We have recieved very little info on this subject, and it makes me a little nervous. I (like some of you) have gone to work hurting, with a high fever, and just plain sick, to let my sick time build to have a sense of security, and now I am frustrated no one can give a answer if these will just vanish with the change.
