Discussion:
What's happening at Nissan?

Does anyone know what's going on with Nissan in the UK? First Impact jump and no credible dealer wants to take on the product, now it seems that Carrylift are about to do the same!

What will HFT, South Wales and Lift West do now as they'll be the only dealers selling any Nissans?

Nissan aren't stupid they want out of forklifts and don't want there image damaging. So lets just put everything into Atlet use there name and if it all goes wrong then we had nothing to do with it. The small truck and warehouse truck business is becoming very competitive how long before Voltas trucks start appearing with Baoli in Europe and USA. Also as from next year the new Emissions on engines over 58KW will come into force so there are going to be a number of companies who are going to struggle to fit the new engines into their range. Watch out for overheating engines as they can't cool the exhaust gases that they have to burn. Much larger trucks are going to be needed to fit the Cummings EGR system in. When you look at the bigger trucks most have gone with the SCR system only really Linde and Hyster who use Cummings EGR , Kalmar Terex Kone crane's will use the Volvo SCR system. there is going to be lots of problems with the new 4,000kg - 8,000kg truck next year.

For those simple folk, like me who don't speak southern ****, I will translate what Hawk means.

Apparently Nissan have lost the plot, big time, handed the problem over to ATLET, employed ex ATLET/Toyota bods to come up with the rescue plan, cos apprently they KNOW what THEY are doing!

Will the 'xtremely successful global organization' get it right? Look at their record - how long did it take to get the cars right? The commercials are now build by Vauxhalls. The marine engine company was put in it's own little box in the USA cos the car company didn't understand it and they sold off the diesel engine company cos they didnt understand that either.

Ummmm, these people must be really bright!! Or really stupid, we'll see guys!!!

I may be wrong but I have a hunch that being that the Company owners have a superb track record of exellence in very careful strategic planning as an extremely successful global organization in order to achieve the best results for their business' be it Cars, light commercials, marine engines or MHE, we should therefore expect part of their plan to achieve their desired goals be to have experts who have perhaps worked for their UK wholly owned subsidary in the past, have sales experience in their historical non core product lines (warehouse equipment) and as a bonus perhaps had great experience in running a sales dept for a dealership of another manufacturer from the same country of origin whereby that dealership may have been aquired and integrated into the new Direct operation lead by the Warehouse truck segment, which was, previous to the 'merger' a wholly owned subsidary also for a few years, in other words, get the right person in as 'integration manager' in order to offer the smoothest transition possible to a UK direct operation and if possible have an inner understanding of the issues, teething problems and unforseen mistakes perhaps made by a previous integration of a remarkably similar arrangement and srategic model.

Having had a rumoured non satisfactory experience in terms of results, of relying on a new main dealer and then not continuing this arrangement within around three years surely if this once renowned major ( counterbalance at least) player is to kick on rather than blow full time I believe it will be by going this way, not sure how the emphasis on maintaining and then increasing the counterbalance volume and focus will affect the 'to date' highly respected and traditionally good reputation of their Swedish origin UK operations in the market going forward. It's all in the balance!.. or is the strategy being implemented and 'integrated' right under our noses!! I just hope that some of the good, loyal and comitted guy's and gals are treated respectfully and fair as I have seen other great servants to the brand in my opinion less so.

Well the question was " What's happening at Nissan"? & this is just my guess, hunch, opinion! Regardless, Good Luck to all out there, keep on forktrucking folks!!!!

Hi Mates;
I believe, if I may,I like to put my two pence into this discussion Mates. Not having eyes on the ground in the UK, but it seems to me I was hearing this same gloom and doom talk from the codger fifty years ago. Don't know of any UK Jungheinrich dealers but we have seen what has happened to Jungheinrich dealers in the States. Did the Jungheinrich product up and disappear in the States? The answer is NO it just reinvented the wheel and joined forces with MCF of Houston, TX - USA. Not knowing what is going on in the board room at Nissan, Tokyo - Japan. I've seen a large number of changes that have happened in the power industrial truck market world wide. Let's take this way we are carrying on this conversation. We need to keep in the forefront, that a manufacturer who doesn't keep their eyes and ears tuned, often find themselves on the outside looking in. So, the point I am making, keep the conversation going and just maybe your voices will be heard.

I think you need to do the same thing as the Welshman and the 'bright' one - accept that you're old news and hang your boots up Mr Shifty!

There is a saying " if you don't look after your Customers"...

Not much upsets me Mrliftyboy! And I'm not an ex Nissan employee.

Sound's to me like you've got the voice of a Nissan employee desperate to believe that everythings fine and there aren't any problems. Ok, you're there for now, but for how long?

I know my trucks matey, and Nissans used to be THE hire truck. Now though they're just a cheap piece of shiny spanish steel. Not the great truck of old!

Even the dealers aren't keen on the new stuff, especially the ATLET warehouse kit.

Like I said, everybody else has good news to share, with you guys at Nissan it's just not there.

If you know your stuff like you say you do Mrliftyboy then tell us all what's so great about Nissan. We should all take your silence as there isn't anything good Nissan!

I agree with Daryl, I don't think you know one end of a truck from another or the industry in general. OR......maybe you're an ex-Nissan employee with a huge chip on your shoulder...!!!!!!
Either way, I can assure you that you are wrong on all counts. Nissan Forklifts are still here AND will be for a very long time.

Hope that hasn't upset you too much Liftupnorth..!!?

The Doosan product is still a match for the Nissan though, and competes against Toyota and Mitsi well enough.

Carrylift came close, but backed away last minute I believe, but it's no surprise that Mexmast are leaving Nissan (does anyone know where?) which is a sign all isn't well with the new way of doing things!!!

Nissan just don't seem interested in trucks anymore, they want to sell mini vans and odd looking cars instead, that's why they've moved fork trucks into it's own little company controlled by ATLET people (BT/TOYOTA anyone?)!! Got to be bad news!!!

Carrylift will probably go next, though as they're owned by a corporation who already works with Doosan.

The smaller dealers will probably end up selling ATLET counterbalance as and when.

All the other players are making headway at the moment, but Nissan are going backwards, fast.

The Doosan Pro5 is poor,Transmissions poor, drive axles still failing.Valves burning on certain engines, old G33p/3 catching fire because of a poorly placed cable clip.Took them ages to admit to those faults. The writing was on the wall, doosan lost a big customer.
