Crown RC3020-40:
Slow speeds.

hello all. working on a crown rc302040
ser # 1a222700

The machine is slow. Battery is good. Seems to be faster in reverse. Seems to completely quit sometimes when turning handle to the left. I'm aware of the switches underneath that slow speeds depending on which way you're turning. I just replaced the rear wheels on this machine and while I was under there I repaired the wiring on one of the switches and cleaned them up. But without a manual, what other checks could I do? Adjust the pot in the multifunction handle? Thanks.

It looks horrible...which is par for the course for this p.o.s. lift. Wire insulation strips right off when you grab the wires... an inch of old gummed up shAt all over switch...... This one has a RES (resistor?) mounted to it... so it has 4 wires, 2 for switch and another 2 for the RES. I completely disconnected the two going to the contactor panel, nothing changed. I reinstalled them and disconnected the other two going to terminal block TB405, and lost fw/rev... And the arm is moving as it should.

I have another one I could try off our junk lift, but it doesn't have the style with the "RES"... which is a side question I don't completely understand what is the RES doing exactly and why is it needed on top of the switch? Same with steering limit switches I noticed they have them too.

by the way battery voltage on this machine is low like 36v they have already had it rebuilt once a year or two ago. supervisor mentioned having it sent out to get rebuilt again.... but it would operate at a normal speed even with the battery issue...

good idea, I was probing at the pot itself and it's in a bad area... I backed the allen screw out, removed pin and gear, spinning pot,

getting readings as high as 12k ohms

Yes. Loosen that Allen screw. Then, follow the pot wires down to the big white connector. Put your meter on the solid brown and solid green wires. Twist the pot until you get the highest reading with the handle in neutral. Could go as high as 6k ohms

allen screw is tight now and i played with adjusting forward and reverse switches, forklift is atleast moving forward and back now but still slow. potentiometer readings are not correct, manual states 4300 to 4600 ohms at neutral and i'm getting 1.9k... also tb11 terminal 1 is 3.5v with key off and changes to 0.5 with max handle movement... with key on terminal 1 is 30v...

im pretty sure the pot. is bad because it doesn't have the resistance it should but could it really be the entire problem?

I was not aware of the allen screw, just the single tab sticking out from the pot base... I will check this allen screw out.

I got the potentiometer to work. Tried installing it according to procedure , install at max ohm, pin, etc. But the pot doesn't have a stop, not sure if its supposed to. It will keep spinning in either direction.... After trying about 6 or 7 different times I finally got it to work for both forward and reverse. my pot sweeps are at 1.9k ohms at neutral,.4 ohm in forward and.3ohm in reverse... This is wrong according to manual. Manual states in neutral it should read 4300 to 4600 ohms. Machine is still extremely slow. less than a creep... charging now to see if anything changes..

Lifted machine off ground, both wheels spin going forward, no reverse. contactors pulling up in both directions.

TB11 voltages are:

1) 30v
2) 0v
3) 0v
4) 0v
5) 36v
6) 36v
