Discussion:
TCM FD70

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the best way to do a ring gear on a TCM FD70
is it to take engine out, take engine and trans out or take the trans out separately, plus any hints.
Thanks

Thanks for the info mrfixit I have not seen the truck yet we have been asked for quote to do the job, does the engine and trans have lifting points, do you use a block and tackle to support the engine from the overhead guard or use a jack/wood from underneath.

How about not taking anything out except the ring gear? Remove the seat, radiator, exhaust pipe, air filter hose, and fan. Remove hoses to the pump. If the pump is behind the motor, I guess you have to take it off. Remove the bell housing, motor mount, and torque convertor bolts. Leave everything on the motor, just support the motor and trans. as needed. Pull motor back, hopefully 6", but 4" can work. Reach in there and take the flywheel off. Try to be done in time to knock off for lunch early :-)

Fact of the week
The word "robotics" was coined by Russian-born American science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov who first used the word in 1942 in his short story 'Runabout'. He characterised robots as helpful servants and as "a better, cleaner race."
