Hyster H50XM:
Steering Issues

I have a 2004 H50XM and when you go to steer it when standing still the wheels will turn to the left but as soon as you try to turn to the right they stop. If you turn the wheel back to the left alittle then back right they will turn. Or if you move the unit forward or backwards it will start working. Any ideas what it could be?

That gives me some good ideas for places to start. Thank you everyone who has answered so far.

check the steer axle real good for wear, it might be binding up from worn parts?
i've also seen this caused by a faulty steering priority valve
(double check your pressures)
plus as was mentioned the orbitrol valve may be sticky making it hang up

Could also be the orbitol box "steering box". Reverse the lines on the steer cyl & see if the symptoms stay the same or reverse.

Sounds like the seals on the piston in the steer cylinder are bad. I have also seen that if the operator crashes into a post with one of the steer wheels it will crack the one side off the steel piston.
