Discussion:
Steering Encoder Code

Good afternoon, I am working on a Hyster R30XMS3 that has a status code Steering Encoder. The lift will come on, no forward/reverse, but the lift will raise and lower. I have checked the CANbus system to ensure its ability to communicate. I have checked the wiring to the encoder and it appears to be in good shape. I have my positive and negeative to the steering controller. This unit recently had the MDU replaced under warranty by Hyster. I am in the process of trouble shooting the wiring from the master controller and steering pot.....any suggestions as to what I need to be looking for that is a common cause for this issue?

You need to be replacing the steer encoder not certain about the type of steer motor on this model but some Hysters particularity reach truck had major problems with steer encoders failing, if the wiring is ok replace the encoder the encoder will be built into the top steer bearing and without hyster software you won't be able to test it
