Starts then dies

I have narrowed it down to the electronic distributor, however I just wish to replace the defective part and not replace the entire assembly. I'm just not sure which part is bad or how to diagnose?

check the wires from the distributor. The truck is not getting a tach signal to keep the fuel lock-off valve on.
