Discussion:
social media, linkedin, facebook, forkliftaction etc.

In the last "M.H.E.D.A. Journal" I saw, there was a push for linkedin and other "social media" sites like facebook. I know the MHEDA website tried to have a forum, and now the forum is a dead link, saying it will return in the future. They have a "wikimheda" site, but it seems designed only to offer up the jargon of our industry for those who are not "in the know".
I also know that MHEDA has it's own "linkedin" group, but it doesn't seem to be very populated. there is also a linkedin group for forklift techs, but as I just started it, it has no members either. (so come to linked in and join!)
I know I would enjoy hearing about everyone else's "social media networking" experiences, and if anyone in the forklift related industries has had any positive experiences with any of the "social media" (present site included)
I personally find forkliftaction to be the best "social media site" for forklift end-users and those who support them, but it appears there is only a few dealers principals or sales managers who feel comfortable with "social media sites".
If you have any ideas about why that might be I would like to hear them too.
I would also really appreciate hearing from anyone who has any ideas about how or what would be an improvement to "social media sites" for our industry.
For those you don't already know the "M.H.E.D.A." I am speaking of is the "Material Handling Equipment Dealers Association".

Edward t--I think one of the biggest reasons they feel uncomfortable is due to the fact that they really cant post an honest assessment on a local issue when at any moment a corporate or management entity can view their statements. Even with a non-discript user name, the location is viewable, and certain things you would only know if you worked there, you know? Also look at what happened to the guy that Twittered from the Black and Decker site in Rialto recently. Dont know if you got it in the paper, but the guy drove 103 miles to work on a mandatory Saturday, got there and was told he was'nt needed that day. He twittered his disdain for the supervisor, and the following Monday he was dragged into HR, shown a copy of his twitter, and then escorted out side and fired! He did not make any threats or use any profanity, he just said B+D ***!! As far as any improvements go, I really like this site, and it seems to have alot of people who are geuinuinly interested in the line of work we have chosen. Another variable is maybe the factory and service managers dont want any techs accessing any help from other than Factory sources for troubleshooting. Maybe theres a liabilty issue in there somewhere. Also if their techs were able to get help from around the world, it would kinda put a dent in the service managers ego as well. I have worked for a couple of real "winners" over the years, if you get my meaning!!
