Discussion:
slow fwd travel, snaps in rev

Hi all, I have a machine that likes to go slow in forward, but jerks/snaps when you start moving in reverse. Contactors are closing, and not releasing until the joystick is released. Had another guy aim to replace the fwd and rev switches at the joystick, but instead aimed for the potentiometer. Wondering if anyone by chance had advice on what would usually cause this. Thanks!

You need to have someone connect a handset to the control card to see what service code is logged

Thanks for the advice! The drive did start working, however it now will not move at all. Potentiometer still shows the same resistance as when it started moving again. Steer switches and brakes switches both have continuity, as well as continuity across fwd and rev switches. I'm not finding any blown fuses. Battery does show 37.2v. Lift and auxiliary both work

To adjust it, remove the cotter pin and remove the gear. Spin the pot shaft to get it close to maximum resistance. Install the gear and cotter pin. Then, there is a very small hole on the RH side of that handle mount with an allen screw holding the bottom of the potentiometer. Loosen and spin the base for fine tuning it.

I'll check that out, thanks! Someone else already supposedly replaced the potentiometer, is there a calibration that needs to be done, or possibly it could have gotten installed wrong? That panel was a pain to get off so I didn't pull it off fully, I'll do that and take a good hard look at that wiring with my meter

Would also check the fwd/rev switches for more than 5 ohms, too. Usually change them all together

Sounds like the potentiometer. Follow the wires to the big white connector. Unplug it and put your meter leads on the brown and green wires from the pot. Reading should be the highest with handle in the center. Slowly drops towards zero as you request full speed.
*meter reading ohms*
