Happy Update, I have gotten in touch with the our local Ford commercial sales rep and he assured me that Ford is not ready to get out of the ESeries business. He has two 2013 models in the pipeline and has given me a quote on one :)!
My company had a fleet of Ford E250 and E350s for over a decade. These vans were used daily and were reliable. We had one of the vans get in a wreck a few years ago and this forced us to finally look at other options as a replacement. We looked at the Ford transet and econoline. We were not impressed. After looking at other options like the Nissan cargo van we were convinced by a friend to look at the Dodge sprinter. The sprinter fit our need well. We currently have a fleet of 2500, and 3500 sprinters and have had nothing but good luck with them. ( **** I just jinxed it!!) The Ford is a great van, my opinion may differ from yours but we could probably both agree that it is imperative to keep your options open in order to make a sound decision. Good luck
Just had a look myself, the Transit Custom is a new design of midsize van that sits between the smaller Transit Connect & the bigger Transit.
Payload of the new 2012 Transit Custom is between 600 & 1400kg depending on which version you pick, 2 different wheel base options & there are 3 versions of the 2.2 TDCi diesel engine with the most powerful having 153 bhp.
Again there is info on the Ford UK website - head for the Commercial vehicles section, no idea which versions will end up for sale in the US.
Have a look at the Ford UK website, it should give you an idea on the Transit Connect.
It's been around a good few years now, there a solid workhorse.
Any ideas if Ford will be selling the full size Transit in the US? There are so many different size, body, load carrying, engine & drivetrain combinations you should be able to find the perfect van.
