top about 3/8" diameter. drill 1/8th" hole about 1/8th of an inch from the top of the flange, then pop the cover off with a pick or small punch.

easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.
Hey Rick, the tamper plug to remove is the one on top by the lock out solonoid or is it the one next to the carb outlet hose. Thanks.

that is the SAS link the one you need to find is on the outside of the battery and it is a small harness with a covered loose connector. the actual wire length to this harness is about 10" and it just lays loose between the battery and the frame where the other harness is. it is slightly rectangular, 6 pin, about 5/8" X 3/4" cap removed. look around you will find it. when you do, use the guide i gave you and count the flashes of the engine shaped light. in the mean time disconect the battery and see if the light clears. you should know that the light you are dealing with has no real bearing on how the truck runs, it is emission control only. \its ok to use it while its on.

rick ,the light is the outline of an engine, diagnostic connector beside battery has lock on side an opens towards steering wheel ,so engine light is supposed to blink? when i remove truck supplied jumper i see (err42) in the hour meter window when in diagnostic mode ,at that point should the engine light start blinking code?

does the light look like an engine outline or say TWC? if so there is a pigtail harness just to the outside of the battery, it has 6 holes and is capped with a black cover. with the holes facing you, (wires away), lock tab on top jump the bottom left 2 holes and turn key switch on. blink code 1 is most common. you will need to set the idle speed to 800-850 and adjust the injector rate to 4-12 ms. (set the idle and set the l/p reg the best it will run and then lean untill rpm just starts to drop) you may need to remove the tamper plug on the regulator. you can clear this code by removing the TWC fuse or battery cable. code 3 is broken wires at the vacuum sensor. you can check puylse rate with meter with frequency. "tricky"
