Discussion:
Robust enough for Africa?

Anyone with an opinion on what the best full/empy reachstacker or handler is for very demanding environments (dust, uneven/rough surfaces, etc.) - inclusive of maintenance/repair support and network, costs, etc.?

Well Hyster actually started building Reachstackers only after HYCO-Boss close down in 1992, they bought the right to build the same machines. Hyster also comercialize PPM made reachstackers.

As most people in the industry are aware, Hyster has been building Big Trucks for many, many years. They operate a standalone facility in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, dedicated to the building of trucks from 8 tonnes though 52 tonnes including Reachstackers.

You should consider Taylor Machine Co. products. They are used all over at ports in the US and are highly rated for both full and empty handlers and offer reach stackers as well.

sorry but over here (uk) hyster reachstackers are`nt rated very much, one of my customers has 3 off them and they all failed very early after delivery with drive axle probs, for bif trucks you cant really beat the people that specialise in building them i.e kalmar, svetruck, smv ect.
people like hyster and linde in my opinion seem to view big truck building as an off shoot of what is there core buisness which is warehouse equipment and counter balance trucks up to 3ton.
there big machines in my opinion dont get as much design and development budget as they should and therefore find it hard to compete against the big boys.

An idea of capacity requirements and actual application may help people suggest products.

Fact of the week
Bluetooth is named after the 10th-century Viking king, Harald Bluetooth, who united warring tribes in Denmark and Norway. In 1997, Jim Kardach from Intel gave the name to the technology because of its ability to unite different communication protocols, just as Harald united various tribes.
