Hello. We are working on a Caterpillar forklift. Model V40C, serial 10Y00553, standard transmission. We are working on the clutch and noticed that some things seem to be backwards compared to most other forklifts. We have talked with two CAT dealers, one said it was too old to provide any service information, and the other one hasn't returned our messages.

The way the pump is plumbed it seems to draw fluid from the bell housing instead of the tank which keeps the tank pressurized and the bell housing completely full. The lift has been working that way for as long as we know but want to eliminate a chance of failure in the future if it is incorrect. We don't know if that's the way it is supposed to be or if someone had done previous work incorrectly. Does anyone have experience with this particular forklift and/or service information to reference?

Thanks for your time.
