I have never had to pull the steer wheel to change the f-n-r switch. If the combination / fnr plastic mount is broken you will have to remove the steer wheel to replace that part. The switch can be change by removing the plastics only. Best i can remember the switch has 2 or 3 phillips head screws that can be accessed from underneath. Hardest part is getting the roll pin out of the old switch for lever and reinstalling the screws that secure the switch unit to the switch mount.
