yeah, well, this was my first move before writing here, and the dealer told me....(drum roll)... 660$.... I asked him if the alternator was gold plated ! :-)

So much for this option.... As of now, I have ordered a points rebuild kit with a regulator....for a total of 15$ plus shipping. I will definitely try this route first and go from there... I will inform everyone the results of this fix once I receive/install the new points and regulator...
