I have a FG25N that the mast won't lower on. It happened out of the blue with no symptoms leading up to it. It will raise and tilt forward and back, just won't lower.

I noticed on the valve control body, there appears to be an electronically actuated valve; is that some form of safety mechanism that allows the lowering of the mast? If so, if that goes bad will that stop the mast from lowering? Is there any kind of override to lower the mast, without cracking a line and making a mess?

Fact of the week
The black box flight recorder was invented by Australian scientist David Warren in the mid-1950s. While initially met with indifference in Australia, his invention gained international recognition, particularly in the UK, and is now a mandatory piece of safety equipment on all commercial aircraft.
