bad hose most likely - you can try replacing it first
if that does not fix it then:

-check your circulation and make sure your getting good flow through the radiator, look down into the filler neck and you should see it swirling a bit, if you can see any of the flue's look for any corrosion, a clogged radiator can be a cause. Also with the engine running , carefully reach onto the top of the waterpump and crack the 10mm bleeder screw and make sure all the air is out of the system.

If the top hose is getting pulled closed something is restricted somewhere causing a vaccum in the upper system pulling the hose closed. Check the bypass hose and pipe and make sure there is no kink or damage there, also pull off the hose and make sure the passage ways are open, not clogged with corrosion or silicates.
Since cat uses the extended long life coolant they use it does not mix well with other coolants, it tends to act like dexcool when it is mixed with other non-compatible coolants and will actually turn into a muddy gunky mess. This definatly can clog up ports etc.
If you encounter this then the whole system will have to be cleaned and flushed out thoroughly.

also a bad thermostat MIGHT cause this issue but generally it will run hot and code a 32 (stage1 overheat) or 33 (stage2 overheat).
