Discussion:
Quad Forklift article - are you kidding?

This is in reference to the "Quad bike forklift for US farmers" article posted in today's newsletter.
I'm looking at this thing (the photo) and am struggling to determine what purpose it is intended to serve or if it even works at all. Can you really lift 3,000 lbs without tipping forward? Granted, there are some very heavy farmers out there, but are they counting on a 400 lb farmer to act as a counterweight?

And the loss of ground clearance for the attachment seems to defeat the purpose of an all terrain vehicle.

And then the comment "had sold up to 1,000 quad bikes with forks attached" seems a little fishy. I mean did they sell 1,000 or not? Technically, selling none would fit into the "up to" statement.

Maybe this is an early Aprils Fools joke.
Someone please enlighten me.

You may be on to something, how could they ever get 2500 lb or 3000 lb capacity. The Jungehinrich 3000 electric can barely lift 3000 lbs.

Fact of the week
In March 2002, identical twins in Finland died on the same day in similar accidents within hours of each other. A 70-year-old man was killed by a truck while cycling; hours later, his twin brother was killed by a truck on the same road, about a mile away, before the family had been informed of the first accident.
