Discussion:
Propane regulator icing up and motor stops

I have a GCX50 clark propane powered forklift that will not rev up when gas pedal is pushed fast, only when pushed slow. The motor is a Perkins 4 cyl. It misses and blows black smoke when you try to go past a idle. The regulator and piping to the carb ice up and shut off motor. Is this a problem with the regulator?

This condition usually points to a lack of coolant flow through the regulator/vaporizer.
Might be something as simple as low coolant level in the cooling system, or something more difficult to determine like a clogged coolant hose or piping.

yes it probably is a bad regulator, but check a couple of things first

- coolant level in radiator and reservoir
- while running if coolant is present in radiator check for circulation

in most cases when regulator starts freezing up it is either because of low coolant in the cooling system or a clogged up regulator.

you have 2 choices if the regulator is bad
you can try and rebuild it or...
just replace it with a new one

your choice

Note: in some rare cases the circulation can be restricted in the fittings and lines in the cooling bypass circuit so if you cannot find any other problems in the obvious areas then its time to start pulling hoses and fittings and checking thoroughly.

good luck

Foundling hatches are safe, anonymous drop-off points for unwanted infants, allowing parents in crisis a way to surrender a baby safely without fear of punishment, ensuring the child is rescued and cared for. The concept started in the 12th century, was abandoned in the late 19th century, then reintroduced in 1952. It has since been adopted in many countries.
