Ed, good post
I had one company call me in cause they would get about an hour out of a tank and it would stall, tank off an almost full tank and install a new and would get just another hour. I got there and they had the hose installed in a way that the only way to hook it up was that the alignment hole on the tank was at the 12 o'clock position instead of the 6 lol. Opps!
Whenever checking a fuel issue always check the LPG coupling at the tank. Look inside the coupling on the hose. It should have NO rubber parts in it. DO NOT PRESS THE PIN IN THE CENTER!!!!! Only the tank's coupling has rubber parts. I get about 40 calls a year with this being the issue.
This is always step one, and a lot of the times, it's the final step lol.
Hi Gary,
As steponme stated you should first try and adjust the governor, if that does not work then it will need replaced.
hi, try adjusting the governor. if you remove the cover and look at the spring arrangement you can see how it works. you want to increase spring tension enough so it will hold the throttle plate steady at the rpm you want, about 2600rpm, and drop it to about 2400 under hydraulic load (deadhead the hydraulics in lift or tilt to load the engine at WOT)
Hi Edward,
I worked on it this morning and believe the problem is related to the governer as certifiedtech suspected. If I disconnect and plug the vacuum hose that goes to it it doesn't cut out. Not sure where to go from there. Seem to have good vacuum.
This may well be something as simple as the outer flat o-ring that should stay in the tank half of the quick disconnect having stayed in the truck half and so the rego disconnect not making a good enough connection and not sealing, or the LPG tank being rotated away from the proper position, or the LPG tank being almost empty.
has anyone there had a proper powered industrial truck operator training, which (in the USA) MUST include training on how to replenish the power supply (refuel the truck for an I.C.E. powered unit)?
How about a dirty fuel filter?
Thanks for your response and help.
Haven't had a chance to go very deep into the problem yet. I just purchased the unit. It does have a brand new carb on it. The truck runs fine until I try to run it with the pedal to the floor.
Hi Gary,
That is a possiability but it sound to me like it is more of a governor issue (either a faulty governor or a vaccum leak) causing the plate to close to much and choking out the engine at high speed. What have you checked so far?
