Discussion:
Pre-use inspections of forklifts

How many of your drivers actually carry out their pre-use inspections of their forklift. Having done some research, I found a frightening amount of trucks keep an inspection checklist under the seat which is rarely filled in by the driver. A common event is for the driver to assume the truck is fine because it worked without incident yesterday, and the checklist is only complteed when an audit is due and is quickly filled in for the past month's worth of alleged inspections.

We recently developed a new system to provide a visual reminder to drivers to complete their checks, with a duplicate record being produced as part of an audit trail. This system ensures everyone is aware thatthe inspection has been carried out and eliminates the risks of assumption. Good to Go Safety
Forklift inspections made easy.

Old post but every bit as much true today. My experience having a pre-use card slot on the lift doesnt work as well as having a centralized card collection spot and a dedicated person to collect the cards and either process workorders for lift shop or red tag and call in outside help for repairs. Keytrollers have a nice feature of pre-use inspection before it allows the unit to start. Of course if a driver knows his answer will stop the lift from starting he may avoid the correct answer. We use the centralized version in a papermill, I collect the cards, email supervisors what cards werent received and then repair items on cards that day. so if OSHA checks they card matches the workorder date. How do you do it?

I find most fill it out.But they just copy what was wrote before them.Had a horn bad on a truck.Fixed it but it was written up for 2 weeks before all operators quit putting it on daily inspection.

Fact of the week
The origin of "love" as the score zero in tennis is debated, but two main theories prevail. One suggests it's derived from the French word "l'oeuf" (egg) which resembles the shape of the number zero. The other proposes it's related to the Dutch word "lof" meaning "honour" as players might be playing for honour when scoreless.
