Raymond 20 R30TN:
Operating Pressure

Hello,

I have a very old 20R30TN forklift... single lift extension machine ( 130" of lift... cylinder is about 3" inside diameter x 65" lift, 72 inch total length).

I am trying to find out the operation / maximum pressure of the hydraulic system.

A 3" cylinder which works out to about 7 sq inches of area.

The actual cylinder lifts "double" the listed weight (each chain lifts the full 3000 lbs but the pivot point lifts double this).

I figure give 1000 lbs for the mast / forks... makes a total lift weight of 7000 lbs.

This equates to a pressure of 1000 lbs!!!!!

This just does not seem correct to me. I keep thinking it should be at least double this.

Can someone set me straight!

Thanks.... Mike

Thanks.....

I have finally gotten around to finishing my lift.

Mast and all is mounted. Just need to get some hydraulics on it.

I had planned on using a complete unit off a dump trailer ( was told by the local dealer they would work fine) but then I read the manual. 1.4 gpm with a 30 second duty cycle... the 3" cylinder 65" long has a volume of 2 gallons! The pump would need to run almost three times it's maximum on time.

So I am no reworking the original pump. Just need to get some control valves on it.

FYI... I see you list Ontario on you location. I am living in VT but was born and raised in Welland Ontario

Thanks again.... Mike

Typically set around 2400 psi for a 3000 lb truck.
